Your Role

Stantec's Mining Practice is seeking a Senior Engineer specializing in Automation, Communication, and Network Systems to enhance our expanding team across Canada. Reporting to the Supervisor of Electrical & Automation, you will play a vital role within the electrical and automation team, collaborating with diverse clients to execute feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for both underground and surface mining operations. This is a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety as a fundamental value at Stantec, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations for both Stantec and its clients. Your dedication to safety will contribute to our objective of achieving zero harm.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and designers in the planning and execution of project tasks, including scoping, asset integrity assessments, as-built documentation, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering. Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Deliver engineering support to clients, addressing their needs and incorporating feedback for future requirements efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Engage regularly with other disciplines and departments to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review and analyze design drawings for potential safety and constructability issues before client submission.
  • As part of the electrical and automation team, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and analyzing automation, communication, and network systems in accordance with relevant codes for mining operations.
  • Implementing innovative, optimized, and standardized designs that consider constructability and economic factors.
  • Creating fit-for-purpose designs that align with client specifications and requests.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports and calculation packages as deliverables for projects.
  • Providing updates on project progress and any issues to Lead Designers or Project Managers.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Self-motivated individual capable of adapting to change and working independently.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, complemented by strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Prior experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering or construction projects within a consulting environment or Owner's team.
  • Proven leadership capabilities and project engineering experience.
  • Ability to lead project teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices as required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineering license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly in mining.
  • Required technical expertise in:
  • Mine Services Process Control & Instrumentation Design.
  • Hoisting System Process Control and Interfaces.
  • Ventilation/Ventilation-on-Demand Systems.
  • Process Piping Systems.
  • Mine Automation and Communication Systems Design.
  • Network switch programming.
  • PLC/HMI Process Control Systems.
  • Wireless Systems.
