We specialize in the intricate field of underground hard rock mining engineering, providing comprehensive support from initial approvals to construction management.

Your Role
We are seeking a Senior Automation, Communications & Network Engineer to enhance our dynamic team across Canada. Reporting to the Supervisor of Electrical & Automation, you will play a pivotal role within the electrical and automation division, engaging with various clients to conduct feasibility studies and detailed engineering for both underground and surface mining operations. This is a full-time opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety as a fundamental value, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations for Stantec and its clients, contributing to our objective of zero harm.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and designers to plan and execute project work, which includes scoping, asset integrity assessments, as-built documentation, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering.
  • Provide engineering support to clients, addressing their needs and incorporating suggestions efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Review and analyze drawings to identify potential safety and constructability issues before client distribution.
  • As part of the electrical/automation team, your main responsibilities will include:
    • Designing and analyzing automation, communications, and network systems in compliance with relevant codes for mining operations.
    • Integrating innovation, optimization, and standardization into designs while considering constructability and economic factors.
    • Delivering fit-for-purpose designs that fulfill client requirements.
    • Preparing comprehensive reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.
    • Updating project progression and addressing issues with Lead Designers or Project Managers.

Qualifications
Skills and Experience

  • Self-motivated individual capable of adapting to change and working independently.
  • In-depth knowledge of design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, complemented by excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering or construction projects within a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and project engineering experience.
  • Ability to lead project teams and mentor junior staff members.
  • Experience in conducting inspections and condition assessments for automation, communications, and network infrastructure.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other offices as required.

Education and Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineering license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly in mining.
  • Technical expertise in:
    • Mine Services Process Control & Instrumentation Design, including Ore & Waste Handling;
    • Hoisting System Process Control and Interfaces;
    • Ventilation/Ventilation-on-Demand;
    • Process Piping Systems;
    • Industrial Building Services;
    • Instrumentation Design and Selection;
    • Mine Automation/Communication Systems Design;
    • Network switch programming;
    • PLC/HMI Process Control Systems;
    • Wireless Systems;
