The Opportunity - Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager, Full-time, Permanent
Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO), the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Program Manager will champion Olds College's commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and healthy environment for work and learning. The College envisions a workplace where all students, faculty, and staff can engage fully and meaningfully in campus life, free from discrimination, bias, or microaggressions. This role is pivotal in fostering a diverse and highly engaged workforce and cultivating an inclusive culture through the management of key EDI initiatives. The Program Manager will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and delivering organization-wide programs and events that support EDI objectives while providing insights and recommendations based on trends, gaps, and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
The EDI Program Manager will:
- Develop and implement campus-wide initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, support indigenization, and advocate for psychological safety to enhance the employee and student experience.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief People and Culture Officer and other team members, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to achieve these goals.
- Apply an EDI lens to existing and new programs, services, policies, and procedures, aiming to integrate diversity and inclusion into daily practices and create an environment that fosters mutual respect and engagement, particularly for historically marginalized communities.
- Act as a subject matter expert and internal advisor to leadership on all matters related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships, working closely with the EDI Committee and its Sub-Committees, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with internal and external parties.
- Carry out responsibilities with a high degree of independence, integrity, and professionalism, while promoting a culture of lifelong learning and continuous professional development.
Project Management and Execution
- Develop comprehensive project plans for short- and mid-term initiatives, including events, activities, training schedules, timelines, resources, and evaluation metrics.
- Collaborate across departments to effectively implement strategies.
- Maintain clear communication regarding deadlines, requirements, and progress with key stakeholders.
- Create processes, documentation, and communications to support ongoing projects.
Employee Relations
- Assist leadership in developing EDI plans that align with institutional priorities, including conducting needs assessments and gap analyses.
- Provide consultative services to managers and employees regarding human resources and EDI policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Conduct research and provide recommendations related to employee and labor relations concerning EDI topics.
Committees and Activities
- Facilitate and support the execution of events, workshops, and programs that promote EDI.
- Coordinate with the EDI Committee, employee resource groups, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective planning.
Support for Organizational Initiatives
- Play a key role in designing and implementing diversity and inclusion-related HR programs and processes.
- Apply a diversity and inclusion perspective to existing and new programs, services, policies, and procedures.
- Develop resources and tools that support a culturally safe working and learning environment.
Communications
- Provide thoughtful input and develop communications targeted for employees.
- Implement recurring diversity and inclusion processes and recommend improvements.
- Collect, analyze, and report on EDI-related data, identifying issues and making appropriate suggestions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business/Management, Social Sciences, Cultural Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including project management in inclusion, diversity, equity, or accessibility.
- A Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion or ongoing coursework towards an EDI credential is an asset.
- Experience in a unionized environment or post-secondary institution is considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to facilitate presentations and training effectively.
- Proven project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to conduct research, analyze data, and interpret information.
- Demonstrated ability to build and utilize a network of resources to support professional growth.
- Conflict resolution skills are essential.
