The Opportunity - Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager, Full-time, Permanent
Purpose of PositionReporting to the Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO), the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Program Manager will support Olds College's commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and healthy workplace and learning environment. The College envisions a setting where all students, faculty, and staff can fully and meaningfully engage in campus life, free from discrimination, bias, or microaggressions. This role is crucial in developing and enabling a diverse and highly engaged workforce and fostering an inclusive culture through the management of key EDI initiatives. The Program Manager will analyze, design, and implement organization-wide programs and events that support EDI initiatives while providing insights and recommendations based on trends, gaps, and measured outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
The EDI Program Manager will create and execute campus-wide initiatives that promote diversity, ensure equity, foster inclusion, support indigenization, and advocate for psychological safety to enhance the employee and student experience at Olds College. This role requires close collaboration with the Chief People and Culture Officer and other members of the People and Culture team, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
The Program Manager will apply an EDI perspective to existing and new programs, services, policies, and procedures, aiming to integrate diversity and inclusion into daily operations and practices. This will create an environment that fosters appreciation, mutual respect, and engagement among all members of the College community, with particular attention to the needs of historically marginalized groups.
The Program Manager will serve as a subject matter expert and internal advisor to leadership on all matters related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Building and maintaining constructive relationships is a significant expectation for this role. The incumbent will work closely with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee and its Sub-Committees, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with internal and external parties in conjunction with the CPCO.
The EDI Program Manager will execute their responsibilities with a high degree of independence, integrity, and professionalism. They are also expected to promote a culture of lifelong learning, continuous personal and professional development, and excellence in human resource practices. The incumbent will model attitudes and behaviors that align with the College's vision, mission, values, and leadership philosophy.
Key Job Functions
Manage EDI Initiatives and Project Execution- Develop comprehensive project plans for all short- and mid-term initiatives, including events, activities, training plans, timelines, resources, and metrics.
- Collaborate across the People and Culture Department and other business areas to effectively implement strategies.
- Maintain ongoing communication regarding deadlines, requirements, and progress with key stakeholders.
- Create processes, documentation, and communications to support ongoing projects.
- Under the direction of the Chief People and Culture Officer, collaborate with leadership to develop EDI plans that align with institutional priorities, including conducting needs assessments and gap analyses.
- Work with People and Culture Business Partners to provide interpretative and consultative services regarding human resources and EDI policies and procedures.
- Assist with research and provide recommendations on employee and labor relations concerning EDI topics.
- Facilitate and support the execution of events, workshops, and programs that promote EDI.
- Coordinate with the EDI Committee, employee resource groups (ERG), student resource groups (SRG), and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and coordinated planning.
- Play a vital role in designing and implementing diversity and inclusion-related HR programs and processes.
- Apply a diversity and inclusion lens to existing and new programs, services, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and implement processes, resources, and tools that support a culturally safe working and learning environment.
- Provide thoughtful input and develop communications targeted at employees.
- Implement recurring Diversity & Inclusion processes and recommend improvements.
- Collect, analyze, and report on EDI-related data, identifying issues and making suggestions as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business/Management, Social Sciences, Cultural Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including project management in inclusion, diversity, equity, or accessibility.
- A Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion or ongoing coursework towards an EDI credential is an asset.
- Experience in a unionized environment and/or post-secondary institution is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to facilitate presentations and training effectively.
- Proven ability to lead change through a proactive and collaborative approach.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Experience in budget management and policy development.
- Ability to conduct research and analyze information and data.
- Capacity to build and utilize a network of internal and external resources to support professional growth.
- Ability to make recommendations and achieve results through influence.
- Strong conflict resolution skills are essential.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, HRIS systems).
- Knowledge of EDI practices, policies, and evaluation tools.
- Familiarity with applicable Human Resource legislation and policies.
