Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Distribution, or Logistics, or 4 years of relevant work or military experience
  • 2 years of leadership experience
  • Experience in the LTL sector
  • Positive demeanor with the ability to multitask and inspire your team
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and administrative abilities

About the Freight Operations Team Leader role

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing all facets of freight operations, including inbound/outbound processing, loading, unloading, and managing customer shipments.
  • Formulating and executing strategic work procedures to adapt to the department's changing needs.
  • Assessing and assigning driver routes.
  • Managing and supervising pickups and deliveries in the local vicinity.
  • Leading hourly staff during various inbound, city, and/or outbound freight operations and serving as the primary contact for workplace inquiries.
  • Ensuring production targets are achieved by managing tonnage, payroll, and other administrative tasks.
  • Planning hourly employee schedules to align with daily operational goals and minimize costs.
  • Enforcing compliance with all company, FMCSR, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC, and DOT policies, rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Implementing all relevant XPO workplace policies and procedures and ensuring adherence.
  • Guaranteeing timely and damage-free delivery and pickup of customer freight.
  • Coaching, training, and developing employees on proper loading/unloading methods and productivity, safety, efficiency, and quality standards, including conducting evaluations for new hires and determining corrective actions for policy violations.
  • Effectively guiding a team to consistently meet or exceed productivity benchmarks.
  • Making recommendations regarding hiring, suspension, and termination.
  • Creating and presenting action plans to enhance load averages and ensure compliance.
  • Participating in internal safety and engagement committees.
  • Training staff on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining cleanliness within the shift to promote safety and productivity.
  • Conducting daily team meetings and communicating corporate updates and policy revisions to all team members.
  • Inspecting the working conditions of tools and equipment necessary for safe operations and directing the resolution of any unsafe conditions.
  • Providing guidance, analysis, suggestions, and ideas for operational improvements within the shift and service center.
  • Acting as a champion of our values, exemplifying them and holding your team to the same high standards.

Physical requirements for Freight Operations Team Leaders:

  • Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally more than 75 lbs.
  • Capability to reach (including overhead), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that may not be climate-controlled and could be slippery.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
