About the Freight Operations Team Leader position

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing all facets of freight operations, including processing inbound and outbound shipments, loading, and unloading customer deliveries.
  • Creating and executing strategic work procedures to adapt to the changing needs of the department.
  • Assessing and assigning driver routes.
  • Managing and supervising local pickups and deliveries.
  • Leading hourly staff during various freight operations and serving as the primary contact for workplace inquiries.
  • Ensuring production targets are achieved by overseeing tonnage, payroll, and other administrative tasks.
  • Planning employee schedules to align with daily operational goals and minimize costs.
  • Enforcing compliance with all company policies and relevant regulations.
  • Implementing XPO workplace policies and ensuring adherence.
  • Guaranteeing timely and damage-free delivery and pickup of customer freight.
  • Coaching, training, and developing employees on effective loading/unloading methods and safety protocols, including conducting evaluations for new hires and addressing policy violations.
  • Directing a team to consistently meet or exceed productivity benchmarks.
  • Making recommendations regarding hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Formulating and presenting action plans to enhance load averages and ensure compliance.
  • Participating in internal safety and engagement committees.
  • Training staff on safety regulations and procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining cleanliness and safety within the operational area.
  • Conducting daily team meetings to communicate corporate updates and policy changes.
  • Inspecting tools and equipment for safe operation and addressing any hazardous conditions.
  • Providing insights and suggestions for operational improvements.
  • Acting as a role model for company values and holding the team to high standards.

Physical requirements for Freight Operations Team Leaders:

  • Ability to lift various objects frequently up to 50 lbs and occasionally more than 75 lbs.
  • Capability to reach, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods in a non-climate-controlled loading dock environment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
