KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Functions:

  • The Geriatric Behaviour Analyst will engage in a recovery-oriented model of care, delivering short-term, inpatient support to individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours linked to their mental health conditions. Employing a bio-psychosocial framework and the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the Analyst will work collaboratively with various professionals within the program to create integrated assessments and care strategies based on evidence-based practices.

Duties:

  • The Analyst will actively participate in the multi-disciplinary treatment team by:
    • Offering insights and training to behaviour therapists, primary care teams, patients, and families regarding behaviour evaluations and intervention strategies on an individual basis;
    • Demonstrating proficiency in the services provided by the Behaviour Therapist;
    • Delivering direct care in both individual and group settings, utilizing a blend of intensive teaching and natural environment training methods;
    • Keeping accurate records and arranging follow-up as necessary while ensuring patient confidentiality;
    • Providing technical oversight to behaviour therapists as required by the regulatory bodies.
  • Responsible for identifying and reporting safety concerns related to patients, staff, and the environment, and implementing preventive and corrective measures within the scope of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A post-graduate degree, at minimum a Master's degree.
  • Registration in good standing with the relevant regulatory college.
  • Active certification as a BCBA or BCBA-D in good standing with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Board Certified Behaviour Analyst status required.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Significant clinical experience, including at least two years providing behaviour analytic services to diverse populations (children, youth, adults, elderly) with mental health and addiction challenges.
  • Capability to train others in ABA methodologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of behavioural programming, including data collection, tracking, graphing, and summarization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mental health issues and pervasive developmental disorders through experience with clients in various settings.

SKILLS:

  • Current CPR-HCP and first aid certification.
  • Proficient in delivering constructive feedback to colleagues regarding programming.
  • Ability to train staff to proficiency on various protocols and behavioural skills training.
  • Strong time management skills and capability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Commitment to adhering to organizational policies and ethical standards as outlined by the regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply clinical protocols effectively.
  • Skills in assessing mental status are essential.
  • Experience in programming planning and development is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act is advantageous.
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in personal development and fostering the growth of others.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to empower patients and families in their care and support clients' independence in the least restrictive settings.
  • A solid work and attendance record is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two years of direct clinical experience providing ABA-based services to adults with mental health, developmental, and/or neuro-cognitive needs.

Additional Notes:

  • Experience with older adults facing mental health and/or neurocognitive challenges is highly preferred.
