KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Duties

  • The Behaviour Analyst will work within a recovery-based model of care to provide time limited, in-patient services to individuals with challenging behaviours related to their mental health diagnosis. Using a bio-psychosocial approach and encompassing the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the Behaviour Analyst will collaborate with the various disciplines within the program in the development of integrated formulations and care interventions in accordance with evidence-based practice approaches.

Responsibilities

  • The Behaviour Analyst will be an active member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team by:
    • Providing feedback and education to behavior therapists, primary care team, patient and family, as indicated, concerning behavioural assessments, behavioural intervention plans on a case-by-case basis;
    • Be competent to provide the services undertaken by the Behavioral Therapist;
    • Provide direct care in one-on-one and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements;
    • Maintain appropriate records and schedule follow-up as needed, and maintain patient confidentiality;
    • Provide technical supervision to the behaviour therapist(s) as set forth by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario;
  • Responsible to recognize and report patient, staff, and environment safety issues, identify and implement preventative and corrective actions, within the scope of this role.
Qualifications

  • Must have a post-graduate degree, minimum Masters;
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario;
  • Active BCBA or BCBA-D Certification in Good Standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB);
  • Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Board Certified Behaviour Analyst in good standing with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board required.

Knowledge

  • Extensive clinical experience, including a minimum of two years providing behaviour analytic services to various populations (children & youth, adults, elderly) who have mental health and addiction issues;
  • Ability to train others in ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis);
  • Thorough knowledge of behavioral programming involving data collection, data tracking, graphing, and summarizing;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues and pervasive developmental disorder gained through experience working with clients in a hospital or community setting.

Skills

  • Current CPR-HCP and first aid;
  • Ability to effectively deliver constructive feedback to colleagues regarding programming;
  • Ability to train staff to fluency on various protocols and behavioral skills training;
  • Effective time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at one time;
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by College of Psychologists and Behavioral Analysts of Ontario and the Behavioral Analyst Certification Board;
  • Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols;
  • Assessment of mental status skills required;
  • Programming planning and development experience preferred;
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act;
  • The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills;
  • Proven interest in self-development and in the facilitation of development of others;
  • Excellent leadership skills;
  • Ability to involve/empower patient/family in their own care and to support clients' optimal independence in the least restrictive environment;
  • Good work and attendance record required;

Years Of Experience

  • Minimum of two years direct clinical experience providing ABA-based services to adults with mental health, development, and/or neuro-cognitive needs.
