Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Oncology Nurse to join our team at Island Health. To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant
  • BC Cancer Systemic Therapy certification
  • Two (2) years' recent, related experience in oncology nursing
  • Basic Life Support, Level C certification
  • Certification in Oncology Nursing from The Canadian Nurses Associations (CNA) would be considered an asset
Key Responsibilities

As an Oncology Nurse, you will be responsible for:

  • Applying the nursing process to provide high-quality patient care
  • Demonstrating sound organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills
  • Using good judgement, observation, and patient/client assessment to inform your practice
  • Demonstrating tact and empathy in your interactions with patients and colleagues
  • Prioritizing and organizing patient/client care needs to ensure efficient and effective care
  • Operating related equipment safely and effectively
  • Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Assuming in-charge responsibility and leading the team as needed
  • Fostering good public relations and communicating effectively with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure clear and concise information exchange
  • Being physically able to perform the duties of the position
