Overview

Hexagon's Autonomous Solutions division is seeking a Hardware Director . In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic vision and both functional and technical leadership to a global hardware organization. You will be instrumental in defining the strategic direction for a diverse hardware organization that encompasses mechanical, electrical, Radio Frequency, product compliance, hardware architecture, and testing systems. This position offers the chance to influence the future and enhance the personnel, processes, policies, and organizational structure to address the evolving demands of the business and its clientele.

The ideal candidate will excel in empowering their teams to deliver world-class mining products that not only meet but exceed customer expectations. You will leverage your unique leadership, mentoring, and communication skills to achieve these goals.

Reporting to the Director of Program & Process Management, you will collaborate with talented Engineering and Project Management teams across Hexagon Mining and the Autonomy & Positioning divisions to execute complex programs.

Responsibilities

As a Hardware Director , your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Vice President of Hardware Engineering on key strategies, including opportunities for synergy between Hexagon's Mining and Autonomy & Positioning divisions, as well as other Hexagon sectors.
  • Establishing the vision and objectives for the hardware organization, ensuring that teams are aligned and focused on achieving these goals.
  • Fostering a highly collaborative environment among global teams, facilitating effective interactions within product development, operations, and product management.
  • Engaging directly with key manufacturing and supply chain leaders to prioritize issues and utilize appropriate life cycle processes.
  • Mentoring technical staff and enhancing their skills to ensure that product development projects are executed according to established parameters, with risks managed and challenges addressed efficiently.
  • Participating actively in all development and pre-development project planning, reviews, and approvals.
  • Assisting your team with critical project and resource prioritization decisions.
  • Monitoring field quality and implementing corrective actions and plans as necessary.
  • Promoting continuous improvement and consistency in development and risk management processes.
  • Collaborating with other Engineering Directors to establish effective budgeting, planning, strategic alignment, and overall engineering processes.
  • Guiding the HW architect and fostering 'system thinking' within the Mining engineering team.
  • Supporting the evolution of the engineering lab and infrastructure.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Over 10 years of experience in leading and shaping high-technology teams and products, with a focus on hardware and embedded systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of effective hardware design processes in both new product development and life cycle support for existing products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, both upward and downward
  • A creative mindset with a strong commitment to continuous improvement

Key Success Factors:

  • Exceptional collaboration, facilitation, mentorship, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across a geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, with a systems thinking approach and attention to detail

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in firmware and embedded computing
  • Knowledge of product compliance and regulated substances
  • Experience in robust product design for mining environments
  • Familiarity with mining applications and solutions
  • Understanding of Agile Engineering principles
  • Application of reliability engineering principles, including HALT, FMEA, FTA, MTBF, and RCA
