Lethbridge School Division is seeking applications for the role of full-time Labourer within the Facilities Services Department. This position involves working under the direct guidance of the Labour Foreman, executing a variety of tasks essential for the upkeep of facilities, grounds, and equipment while ensuring safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. The role necessitates collaboration with team members to enhance the Division's operations. The nature of the responsibilities requires a significant degree of independent judgment within established guidelines. The position may involve physical exertion and could require overtime hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently load and unload trucks weighing up to 22 kg.
  • Assist in loading and unloading heavier items (22 kg to 31.5 kg).
  • Manage the movement and transportation of equipment, furniture, and supplies throughout the year.
  • Deliver and collect mail and other materials across various departments and facilities.
  • Support the Purchasing department with deliveries and inventory management.
  • Maintain outdoor areas through mowing, edging, aerating, and fertilizing.
  • Paint athletic lines and markings on fields and hard surfaces.
  • Prune trees and shrubs as necessary.
  • Conduct snow removal and maintenance of walkways and parking areas.
  • Repair asphalt surfaces in parking lots and play areas.
  • Install and remove seasonal snow fencing.
  • Maintain various fencing systems.
  • Service and report on the condition of gas-powered and electric equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance on fleet vehicles and machinery.
  • Assist with the upkeep of underground sprinkler systems.
  • Support other Facilities Services staff as needed.
  • Operate various equipment, including trucks and landscape tools.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Director of Facility Services or their designate.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid 5th Class Alberta Driver's License.
  • Clear Drivers Abstract.
  • Ability to operate vehicles with trailers.
  • Strong understanding of safe driving regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good sight and hearing to perform job duties effectively.
  • Able to stand or walk for long periods.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying weights up to 22 kg independently.
  • Able to climb ladders up to 5 meters high.
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to handle various chemicals safely.
  • Physically fit to perform heavy manual labor in diverse weather conditions.

  • Strong public relations skills with the ability to foster effective working relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in record-keeping and completing necessary documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience that supports effective communication and technical knowledge.
  • Possession of a valid 3rd Class Alberta Driver's License.
  • First Aid and WHIMIS certifications.
  • Training in Confined Space Entry and Rescue.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods training.
  • Skid Steer Operator certification.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
