Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Buyer & Material Planner to join our team at Joe Johnson Equipment Edmonton. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing inventory levels to meet production requirements and customer demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and purchase raw materials, components, and services to meet production and customer requirements by forecasting demand, analyzing material requirements, and implementing inventory management strategies to prevent shortages and excesses.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory and ensure it aligns with physical stock and manage inventory turns and address slow-moving or excess inventory items.
  • Develop suitable procurement and replenishment arrangements for Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and shop supplies.
  • Evaluate, analyze supplier quotes, negotiate prices, and maintain relationships with vendors and assess supplier performance in terms of quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Responsible for daily tracking, creating, and converting purchase requisitions into invoices for suitable vendors using the JDE - ERP system.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams for product development and production planning.
  • Assist with planning and executing in-house manufactured work order and painted parts scheduling as per requirements.
  • Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory.
  • Coordinate timely returns of rejected material and ensure that proper credit processes are followed.
  • Resolve purchase order acknowledgement discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Resolve supplier delivery problems contributing to production shortages.
  • Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects assigned.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in the Heavy Equipment/Industrial industry considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with inventory software and MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management, procurement processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and relations management skills.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • High degree of planning, follow-through, analytical, attention to detail, and accuracy skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team.
  • Self-motivated, strong problem solver, resourceful, and demonstrates good decision-making.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
