Objective:
  • The Student Academic Support Coordinator position plays a vital role in enhancing student achievement and retention within the Lassonde School of Engineering by effectively managing, organizing, and overseeing student academic petitions and appeals processes, while also offering comprehensive student advising and assistance.
  • This role additionally provides administrative support for the Student Welcome and Support Centre teams during peak times, ensuring a high standard of confidential, administrative, and research assistance.
  • The Student Academic Support Coordinator serves as the primary resource for students and staff regarding academic petitions, appeals, and general advising matters, acting as the key support person for the Faculty Petitions & Appeals Sub-Committee.
  • Key responsibilities include interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations related to student records, offering guidance to the academic advising team, and aligning with the mission and values of the Lassonde School of Engineering and York University.
Qualifications:
Experience:
  • A minimum of three years of experience in managing administrative processes, committee support, minute-taking, document interpretation, and evaluating student academic records.
  • Experience in post-secondary student judicial affairs or processes related to petitions, appeals, or academic integrity is preferred.
Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of academic programs, degree requirements, and educational legislation.
  • Proven skills in:
    • Effective verbal and written communication.
    • Public speaking and presentation abilities.
    • Interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
    • Sound judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Attention to detail and effective time management.

  • Familiarity with online student records systems and web resources.
  • This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing for two days of remote work each week.
