Quantum Computing Software Engineer

Our goal is to harness the potential of quantum computing to provide innovative solutions across various sectors, including logistics, artificial intelligence, materials science, drug discovery, cybersecurity, and financial modeling.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an intermediate-level software engineer to join our processor software team. This team plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining software that supports both processor development and hardware engineering efforts. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with physicists and programmers to create software that interfaces with our quantum processors in both laboratory and production settings. The software, primarily developed in Common Lisp (SBCL), is essential for tasks such as design, modeling, testing, calibration, and operational management of quantum systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the complete software product lifecycle, including development, testing, validation, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning.
- Collaborate with team members and scientists to enhance quantum processor calibration, hardware interfaces, and operational infrastructure, including system testing and monitoring.
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot software for system hardware, including control systems and processor electronics.
- Extend and support custom software tools to facilitate laboratory operations.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering physics, electrical/computer engineering, or physics, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant software experience. A degree in computer science with a strong background in physics and hardware experience is also acceptable.
- Proficiency in developing and optimizing software in compiled languages and multithreaded environments.
- Experience in implementing hardware interfaces.
- Mid-level familiarity with Git, including branching, merging, and pull requests.
- Experience working in a Linux environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical contexts.
- A collaborative mindset with a proven ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams on diverse challenges.
- A self-motivated, proactive, and inquisitive approach to learning and problem-solving.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Common Lisp or similar languages such as Scheme, Clojure, or Scala.
- Experience with tools such as Emacs, Docker, Jenkins, SQL, MongoDB, InfluxDB, Grafana, and Redis.
