Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing instructional and behavioral support to students, working closely with teachers to develop and implement individualized learning plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support to students, including one-on-one assistance and small group instruction
  • Assist teachers with classroom and resource preparation, including setting up materials and equipment
  • Support student behavior management, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized learning plans
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents to ensure a smooth and supportive learning environment
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as education or special education
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with students with special needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • First Aid and CPR certification, as well as Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
