THE ROLE
This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of a driven team tasked with evaluating the operational capabilities and frameworks of UPP's investment partners. Reporting to the Manager of Operational Due Diligence, the Senior Analyst will collaborate closely with both Public and Private Markets Investment teams, Responsible Investing (RI), Compliance, and other stakeholders to conduct initial and ongoing assessments of non-investment operational risks associated with external managers. The Senior Analyst will enhance the team’s efforts by participating in operational due diligence evaluations, preparing assessments for managerial review, and communicating findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders. This dynamic position offers the chance to engage with senior leadership on discussions regarding operational risks and controls, investment strategies, compliance programs, and personnel quality, while gaining insights into various asset classes, fund strategies, and operational models. This role is based in a central location with flexible work-from-home options.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examine key offering documents, due diligence questionnaires, audited financial statements, and investment manager policies to identify areas requiring further inquiry and discussion with fund managers.
  • Coordinate ongoing operational due diligence review meetings with existing fund managers, including hedge funds, public market, and private fund managers.
  • Engage with fund managers on operational due diligence topics, preparing detailed agendas and discussion points for review meetings.
  • Participate in operational due diligence review meetings, contributing operational inquiries and documenting discussions clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborate with operational due diligence consultants for new investment assessments and analyze manager evaluation reports to establish an operational risk rating.
  • Identify and evaluate deficiencies or concerns noted during discussions with fund managers, documenting these in the risk rating report.
  • Provide suitable recommendations for fund managers in the risk rating report, subject to approval by the Manager of Operational Due Diligence, and present findings to internal teams and executive leadership.
  • Stay informed on industry standards and facilitate knowledge sharing within the Operational Due Diligence group and the broader organization.
  • Conduct ongoing media monitoring of fund managers to assess potential reputational and investment risks to UPP.
  • Establish and maintain effective, collegial relationships with internal stakeholders and external fund managers.
  • Be prepared to travel for onsite operational due diligence visits, adhering to current health guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in conducting due diligence or internal controls assessments within the financial sector.
  • Familiarity with the due diligence review processes for newly proposed funds and ongoing fund evaluations.
  • Knowledgeable in areas such as fund operations, fund administration, prime brokerage, auditing, legal compliance, technology, and information security.
  • Understanding of various financial instruments and alternative investment strategies, including hedge funds, private equity, credit, real estate, and infrastructure, as well as traditional equity and fixed income strategies.
  • A degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is required; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Professional designations such as CPA, CFA, or CAIA are preferred but not mandatory.
