About the Role

At Colliers, we're seeking a skilled Preconstruction Manager to join our Construction Solutions team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in delivering value-based design and constructability options for projects across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide preconstruction leadership to optimize project outcomes and minimize risks
  • Lead and manage preconstruction activities using integrated project delivery (IPD), design-build, construction management, or stipulated price delivery methodologies
  • Engage with clients, architects, and engineers to provide real-time recommendations on cost, schedule, quality, and constructability variables
  • Review and comment on drawings and specifications to ensure constructability, value engineering, and sequencing options are considered
  • Develop and implement Construction Management Plans (CMPs) to support permitting applications and construction logistics
  • Lead design-assist teams to investigate major building renovations and equipment upgrades
  • Provide construction management support to clients and developers to augment their in-house construction teams
  • Assist clients with equipment integration into base buildings and develop procurement procedures for goods, services, and works packages
  • Conduct site assessments and prepare project management documentation
  • Participate in business development and proposals to grow the business and expand our professional service offering
  • Maintain internal financial control of projects and ensure all activities and deliverables are managed within budget
  • Prepare project plans and schedules and maintain compliance with our Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Assist with training and mentoring of staff and provide leadership across all assigned projects

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, combined with experience in the construction industry
  • 4-8 years of progressive work-related experience in design, cost estimating, and construction
  • Professional Engineering qualifications will be given preference
  • PMP qualifications will be given preference, or willingness to obtain within one year
  • Demonstrated familiarity with national and local building codes, health & safety regulations, and regulatory permit requirements for the construction industry
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings and design details
  • In-depth knowledge of trades relevant to commercial construction
  • Knowledge of government regulations regarding the construction industry
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and project management tools
