Anesthesia Technician Trainee, Anaesthesia Tech Services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the setup and initiation of anesthesia, including preoperative checks and calibration of the anesthetic equipment, ensuring all necessary tools are ready for each procedure. Support patient readiness through tasks such as preoperative assessments, positioning, and setting up invasive lines.
  • Under the guidance of the supervising anesthesiologist, assist with the placement of devices like oro or nasogastric tubes, intravenous lines, and intra-arterial catheters. Aid in establishing arterial lines and assist with central line placements and neuraxial techniques, including epidurals and spinal anesthesia. Manage airway maintenance, particularly in challenging cases.
  • Contribute to the accurate documentation of patient information on the Anesthetic Record.
  • Support procedural sedation as directed by the attending anesthesiologist, monitoring patient status during surgery and responding to emergencies such as cardiac arrest or malignant hyperthermia. Administer prescribed medications to ensure anesthesia effectiveness and patient stability.
  • Maintain and organize essential carts for pediatric care, difficult intubation, hemodynamic monitoring, and malignant hyperthermia.
  • Assist anesthesiologists during patient emergence from anesthesia, including managing anesthetic titration, airway maintenance, and postoperative care.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with at least one year of critical care experience or two years in an acute care setting.
  • Active enrollment in a Certificate of Anesthesia Assistant program.
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
