Anesthesia Technician Trainee, Anaesthesia Tech Services
Organization: PHSA
Location: Vancouver, BC
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup and initiation of anesthesia, including preoperative checks and calibration of anesthetic equipment, while ensuring all necessary tools are prepared for each procedure. Support patient readiness through tasks such as preoperative evaluations, positioning, and setup of invasive lines.
- Support the anesthesiologist in the insertion of devices, including oro or nasogastric tubes, intravenous lines, and intra-arterial catheters. Aid in establishing arterial lines and assist with central line placements and neuraxial techniques like epidurals and spinal anesthesia. Manage and monitor the airway, including handling challenging airway situations.
- Contribute to the documentation of patient information on the Anesthetic Record.
- Under the guidance of the anesthesiologist, assist in procedural sedation as required. Monitor patient status during procedures and respond to emergencies, including airway management and temperature regulation. Prepare and administer medications to ensure effective anesthesia and hemodynamic stability, and assist in managing intraoperative crises.
- Maintain and replenish supplies for pediatric, difficult intubation, hemodynamic, and malignant hyperthermia carts.
- Assist the anesthesiologist during patient emergence from anesthesia, including managing anesthetic titration, airway support, and post-operative ventilation management.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with at least one year of critical care experience or two years in an acute care setting.
- Active enrollment in a Certificate of Anesthesia Assistant program.
- Membership in relevant professional organizations.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
Skills & Knowledge:
