PART-TIME ICE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The part-time Ice Maintenance Technician is tasked with ensuring the optimal condition of the ice surfaces at the facilities. This role includes general upkeep and cleanliness in and around the venue.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ongoing Duties

  • Prepare the ice before scheduled events
  • Clear snow from exit pathways
  • Assist in the placement and removal of hockey nets for the ice resurfacing vehicle
  • Ensure all ice rinks are resurfaced according to the established schedules
  • Conduct routine maintenance on all ice surfaces
  • Carry out minor repairs on the ice surface, boards, safety barriers, and other equipment
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks, including litter collection and waste disposal, as well as cleaning locker rooms and restrooms

Occasional Duties

  • Operate the ice resurfacing machine as needed
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Supervisor and Director of Operations

Health & Safety Obligations

Responsible for adhering to all regulations outlined by the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), specifically:

  • Complying with the provisions of the OHSA, relevant regulations, and internal policies
  • Utilizing protective equipment and clothing as required
  • Reporting any defective equipment or safety devices that may pose a risk
  • Notifying of any violations of the OHSA or organizational policies

Training Requirements

Expected to complete online training modules, including but not limited to:

  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA)
  • Integrated Accessibility Standard (IASR)
  • Ontario Worker Health & Safety Awareness
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Violence and Harassment in the Workplace

May also be required to participate in scheduled on-site training sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enthusiastic and energetic, with a proactive attitude and eagerness to learn
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) and comfortable working at heights
  • Familiarity with ice resurfacing materials, equipment, and techniques
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Proficient with maintenance tools and equipment
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Bilingualism (French & English) is preferred
