Unit Clerk, Surgical Services Specialist

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our Surgical Services team at Royal Columbian Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our patient care area.
Key Responsibilities- Prioritize and process physicians' orders, coordinating with other departments and facilities as needed.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, arranging tests and receiving results.
- Act as a communication link for the assigned area, contacting other facilities and departments to exchange information.
- Assemble and maintain patient charts, inputting data and transcribing information into applicable systems.
- Answer telephones, transfer calls, and take messages, providing information and directing visitors to the appropriate area.
- Perform related clerical duties, including data entry, filing, and maintaining statistics.
- Maintain timekeeping records for regular and casual staff, submitting and entering information to the payroll system as required.
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program.
- One year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
