Position Overview
The Government of Nunavut is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Regional Laboratory Technologist. This position is essential for delivering high-quality laboratory services within the Kivalliq region.
Employment Details
This is a Highly Sensitive Position requiring a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check. The salary for this role is $89,998 per year, with a Northern Allowance of $18,517 per year. The position entails a work schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
Job Responsibilities
The Regional Laboratory Technologist will report directly to the Manager of Regional Laboratory Services. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering services in Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Molecular and Specimen Receiving/Processing.
- Conducting individual patient tests and analyzing samples using advanced laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
- Recognizing normal and atypical findings and taking appropriate actions based on analysis.
- Leading the examination and analysis of biological samples in accordance with international laboratory standards.
- Reviewing, verifying, and releasing patient results through the Laboratory Information System (Meditech).
- Performing Quality Control (QC) on all instruments and procedures to ensure accuracy and precision in results.
- Collaborating with the healthcare team to collect and analyze laboratory samples for diagnostic purposes.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized Canadian institution.
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science, including a General Certificate in all areas (RT).
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory technologies, principles, and standards of practice, including venipuncture and medical terminology.
- Experience in various laboratory settings is considered a significant asset.
- Knowledge of Inuit language, culture, and communities is advantageous.
Training Requirements
All healthcare providers must complete the following training and certification within a reasonable timeframe:
- WHMIS
- All Codes response training
- Dangerous Goods Transportation
- CPR
- Handwashing In-service
