Regional Laboratory Specialist

Position Overview
The Government of Nunavut is seeking a Regional Laboratory Technologist to join our dedicated team in delivering essential laboratory services. This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality health care through the analysis of biological samples and diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Molecular testing.
- Receive and process specimens while adhering to established laboratory protocols.
- Analyze samples using both advanced laboratory instruments and manual techniques.
- Recognize and act upon normal and atypical findings during analysis.
- Lead the examination and analysis of various biological samples, ensuring compliance with international laboratory standards.
- Verify and release patient results through the Laboratory Information System (Meditech), ensuring accuracy in patient data management.
- Perform and monitor Quality Control (QC) on all laboratory instruments and procedures to maintain precision and accuracy.
- Collaborate with the health care team to provide comprehensive diagnostic services.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized Canadian institution.
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science, holding a General Certificate in all areas (RT).
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory technologies, principles, and standards of practice, including venipuncture and medical terminology.
- Experience across various laboratory disciplines is considered a significant asset.
- Familiarity with Inuit language, culture, and communities is advantageous.
Additional Requirements
All health care professionals must be prepared to obtain training and certification in the following areas:
- WHMIS
- All Codes response training
- Dangerous Goods Transportation
- CPR
- Handwashing In-service
