DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In accordance with the latest standards and the current scope of practice established by the College of Nurses of Ontario, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients with stabilized conditions. Your role will include administering treatments as prescribed by physicians and delegated by the Patient Care Manager, while also observing and enforcing infection control protocols and aseptic techniques essential for preventing nosocomial and communicable diseases. Additional related duties may be assigned as necessary.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited community college
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.);
  • Completion of Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enroll within 3 months of starting in the position and successfully complete within 12 months (reimbursement for the course will be provided upon proof of completion)
  • Demonstrated ability to work at full scope of practice;
  • Relevant experience in a Medical Unit or similar environment;
  • Updated nursing skills including Aseptic Techniques and Patient Assessment courses;
  • Current certification in Medication Administration;
  • Knowledge and experience in wound care;
  • Proven sound judgment, good observation skills, tact, and empathy;
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, and teaching abilities;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks;
  • Capability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
  • Satisfactory performance record;
  • Commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Physical ability to lift, turn, and transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;
  • Commitment to core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork, and Joy;
  • Understanding of and commitment to comprehensive Safety programs and practices, including staff safety, patient safety, and Environmental safety, along with participation in regular in-service education sessions;
  • Proven good attendance record with the ability to maintain this standard.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment terms and conditions are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
