Skaabe Specialist

The Southeast Resource Development Council Corp is seeking a skilled and compassionate Skaabe to join our team. As a Skaabe, you will play a vital role in supporting survivors of residential school and their families, as well as families and individuals impacted by MMIWG2S+.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide support, safe, non-judgmental, respectful, and confidential services to individuals and families through trauma-informed practices that are culturally relevant and sensitive to their emotional needs.
- Assist Traditional Healers, Elders, and Medicine People with a range of traditional healing approaches, including fasting, sweat lodge, shake tent, sacred fire, naming ceremony, clan ceremony, and pipe ceremonies.
- Facilitate client access to Traditional Healers and ceremonies, ensuring protocols are understood and met, and traditional medicines are gathered, prepared, identified, and stored.
- Assist with facilitated access for community members, staff, and Aboriginal youth to the learning experience of traditional healing approaches.
- Assist with facilitated accommodation and travel requirements of Traditional Healers, assisting with the compilation of a database, program reports, and submissions, and maintaining an efficient and secure filing system.
- Demonstrate a commitment, respect, understanding, and knowledge of Traditional Healing.
- Exhibit a positive, professional, courteous, and respectful manner with a desire to help people find their healing path.
- Be a team player with a knowledge and understanding of the health needs of Southeast community members.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the culture, traditions, teachings, ceremonies, and practices of Aboriginal people will be considered an asset.
