Job Title: Skaabe

Job Summary:

The Southeast Resource Development Council Corp is seeking a skilled Skaabe to join our team. As a Skaabe, you will provide support and services to survivors of residential school and their families, as well as to families and individuals impacted by MMIWG2S+.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Traditional Healers, Elders, and Medicine People with traditional healing approaches, including fasting, sweat lodge, shake tent, sacred fire, naming ceremony, clan ceremony, and pipe ceremonies.
  • Facilitate client access to Traditional Healers and ceremonies, ensuring protocols are understood and met, and traditional medicines are gathered, prepared, identified, and stored.
  • Assist with facilitated access for community members, staff, and Aboriginal youth to traditional healing approaches.
  • Assist with facilitated accommodation and travel requirements of Traditional Healers, assist with compilation of a database, program reports, and submissions, and maintain an efficient and secure filing system.

  • Demonstrate a commitment, respect, understanding, and knowledge of Traditional Healing.
  • Exhibit a positive, professional, courteous, and respectful manner with a desire to help people find their healing path.
  • Be a team player with a knowledge and understanding of the health needs of Southeast community members.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the culture, traditions, teachings, ceremonies, and practices of Aboriginal people will be considered an asset.
