Position Overview

The IHealth Specialty Lead – Trauma Services plays a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery within Island Health. Reporting to the IHealth Initiative and CMIO, this individual will lead the development and implementation of specialty-specific standards for our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with island-wide trauma specialists to establish standardized documentation practices aligned with Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Develop and implement condition-specific documentation requirements and specialty-specific guidelines.
  • Lead a team of ordering providers to harmonize order sets for both paper-based and computerized systems, ensuring adherence to Island Health's standards and best practices.
  • Promote clinical excellence through the development and implementation of order sets that incorporate antimicrobial stewardship, effective laboratory utilization, Choosing Wisely principles, and other evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain strong communication with relevant Quality Councils and co-chairs by providing regular reports and escalating critical issues.
  • Work closely with informatics, pharmacy, nursing, and allied health professionals to ensure seamless development and adoption of clinical order sets.
  • Actively engage with trauma colleagues to support IHealth change management initiatives, including workflow validation, simulation exercises, and education platform development.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant clinical and professional legislative, accreditation, or practice requirements.
  • Participate in testing events to validate the EHR's design meets clinical workflow needs and best practices, particularly in areas such as orders and results management, referral management, and transitions of care.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the EHR system through participation in lessons learned sessions, provider feedback mechanisms, benefits analysis, metrics tracking, and a clinical measurement framework.
