What is the Opportunity?

We are seeking a Data Specialist to join the Data Analytics and Insights Team of RBC Global Asset Management. If you are passionate about data engineering and delivery practices, please read on.

Data Engineer

  • Assist in the development and delivery of data product solutions, including building, customizing, and managing data pipelines, data integration tools, databases, data warehouses, and analytical systems.
  • Analyze business requirements and needs in terms of data sources, data transformation, data flow, and data quality.
  • Produce technical artifacts to document solution designs and operational guidelines.
  • Support testing requirements for data products and services, including testing automation.
  • Support the development and execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders using our software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Candidate must have knowledge of data engineering concepts and best practices, such as data pipelines, ETL, data quality, and data modeling.

Analytics Engineer

  • Machine learning platform enhancement to increase reusability and accelerate insight creation for GAM funds sales and marketing business.
  • Increase awareness of advanced analytics capabilities to experiment with NLP capabilities on feature mining and retrievals.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain data pipelines, as well as build out our workflow framework to further the quality of our data assets and streamline the creation and delivery of the assets to end business users.
  • Perform research and provide answers for customer-generated inquiries.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc tasks under direct supervision.
  • Document processes or upgrade existing procedure manuals.

Data Analyst

  • Process security, product, and employee setup on Eagle system.
  • Review data quality monitors daily and address data quality issues with data stakeholders.
  • Analyze data and data workflows to improve data quality.
  • Participate in data projects, such as contributing to GAM's Data Literacy Program.
  • Update and organize DMO's Connect and Confluence pages.

Technical Skills:

Must-have:

  • Data Engineer and Analytics Engineer stream: Have a strong quantitative background, a degree in math/statistics/computer science/engineering would be a plus.
  • Data Analyst Stream: Have a strong business and finance background, a degree in Finance/Accounting/Business/Math is preferred.
  • Experience working with SQL and large data sets.
  • Experience in writing high-quality code using general-purpose programming languages. Python is a strong asset.
  • Familiar with Docker and containerization technologies.
  • Strong Unix/Linux/Bash scripting skills.
  • Knowledge of AWS or similar storage solutions.
  • Experience working with DevOps CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Experience working within professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source code management, build processes, and testing.
  • Decent understanding of Kubernetes/Docker compose (container orchestration).
  • Experience with public and private cloud computing services, including AWS or similar storage solutions.
  • Desire to learn data capabilities, such as data management, data governance, data mastering, data quality, data literacy, etc.
  • Desire to learn data business intelligence tools, such as Excel, Tableau.

Soft Skills:

  • Great communication skills. Team player with the ability to work with a diverse group and offshore team.
  • Must be a self-starter, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functional areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
