The Chief Estimator position is based in Scarborough, Ontario, and involves close collaboration with the General Manager.

This role encompasses a comprehensive range of mechanical projects across industrial, commercial, governmental, and institutional sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead a specialized team of Estimators in Mechanical ICI Construction, preparing detailed estimates of potential costs related to materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment for construction projects, based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  2. Provide guidance on tendering processes, analyze tenders, recommend awards, and facilitate negotiations.
  3. Establish and uphold the tendering framework while implementing cost monitoring and reporting systems.
  4. Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects concerning tenders.
  5. Oversee site assessments, tender evaluations, project hand-offs, and operational meetings with relevant management personnel.
  6. Maintain an updated directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  7. Engage in consultations with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility analyses on modifications to cost estimates.
  8. Maintain a strong industry presence to ensure a steady flow of work in the future.
  9. Stay informed about emerging technologies in the mechanical contracting sector to ensure all estimates reflect the latest construction methods and practices.
  10. Manage material and equipment procurement for secured projects.
  11. Travel to various sites or client locations as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Education Requirements

Completion of a Mechanical Engineering or Construction Technology program, along with relevant work experience, OR a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with extensive experience and prior estimating expertise.

Work Experience Requirements

A minimum of 15-20 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects valued at $10M or more.

  5. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings
  6. Fluency in trades (plumbing, hydronic, HVAC)
  7. Strong organizational and time management skills
  8. Self-motivated leadership capabilities
  9. P.Eng. or CET designation is a plus
  10. Project management experience is advantageous
  11. Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects)
  12. Familiarity with Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen)
  13. Experience with Accubid
  14. Knowledge of Change Order Pro
