The Mechanical Estimator position plays a crucial role within our organization, collaborating closely with the Chief Estimator.

The Senior Mechanical Estimator will engage in a diverse array of mechanical projects across industrial, commercial, governmental, and institutional sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed estimates of anticipated costs for materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment related to construction projects, utilizing contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide guidance on tendering processes, evaluate and analyze bids, recommend award decisions, and facilitate negotiations.
  • Establish and uphold the tendering process while implementing cost monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects concerning tenders.
  • Participate in site assessments, tender evaluations, project hand-offs, and operational meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain an updated directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Engage in consultations with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors, preparing economic feasibility analyses on cost estimate modifications.
  • Maintain a strong industry presence to ensure ongoing work opportunities.
  • Stay informed about advancements in mechanical contracting technologies to ensure estimates reflect the latest construction methods and practices.
  • Oversee material and equipment procurement for confirmed projects.
  • Travel to various project sites as necessary.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Technology with relevant experience OR
  • A qualified tradesperson background in the mechanical field, complemented by several years of estimating experience.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects valued at $5M or more.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Advanced knowledge and proficiency in:

  • Meeting deadlines and working under pressure
  • Contract management principles
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Interpreting mechanical drawings
  • Fluency in trades (plumbing, hydronic, HVAC)
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated leadership capabilities
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation is an asset
  • Project management experience is beneficial

Proficient in:

  • Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and Project)
