Position Overview

The Birth Unit Operating Room/PACU Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, family-centered nursing care to patients and their families. Reporting to the Manager of the Birth Unit, this position involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective care throughout the birthing process. The nurse will apply current nursing theories and practices to support families during the intrapartum and postpartum phases.


Work Schedule

Shifts range from 7.5 to 11.25 hours, based on operational needs, typically scheduled Monday through Friday.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
  • Completion of a perioperative nursing course is required, or a commitment to complete within two years of hire.
  • Recent intrapartum nursing experience is essential.
  • Experience in a Birth Unit is advantageous.
  • Previous OR and/or PACU experience is preferred.
  • ICU/CCU course completion is an asset.
  • Acute care nursing experience is beneficial.
  • Current certifications in BCLS, NRP, and ACLS are mandatory.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills are essential.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to facilitate change are necessary.
  • Ability to create an empowering environment for team members is crucial.
  • Knowledge of family-centered care principles and patient-family education is required.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
