The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Specific Care Clinic. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide nursing care that is integrated and compatible with the clinic's patient-focused goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering patient and family-centered care consistent with the philosophy, objectives, vision, and mission of the IWK Health Centre. You will work closely with other members of the team to provide care to an ambulatory care population, with the possibility of working in inpatient/acute care settings.

Key responsibilities will include case coordination, transition support, telephone facilitated care, psycho-education, medication management and monitoring, assessment and intervention. You will also liaise with family doctors to bridge communication between different care areas and treatment teams.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mental health nursing, with experience working with children and youth with mental health and addiction needs. You will be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to family-centered care and evidence-informed practice.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with Nova Scotia College of Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with children and youth with mental health and addiction needs within a mental health setting
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with children and youth, with clinical experience in Mental Health nursing
  • CNA Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) Program within the last 12 months
  • Demonstrated experience in providing group interventions for parents, children, and adolescents
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing, maintaining, and closing therapeutic relationships
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary teamwork, time management, prioritization, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience in patient/family teaching
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with medical data collection, organization, and descriptive statistics preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family-centered care and evidence-informed practice
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification
  • Knowledge of IWK mental health programs and community resources
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
