About the Role
The First Nations Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Wellness Navigator to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in advancing the health and wellness of BC First Nations communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement regional substance use and decriminalization literacy initiatives, providing tools and support for citizens to access resources and services.
- Support the implementation of decriminalization policies and procedures, ensuring awareness and access to supports and services.
- Liaise with local law enforcement to promote awareness of available resources and services.
- Contribute to knowledge translation and communications related to decriminalization, ensuring accurate and timely information is shared with stakeholders.
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities, including data collection and reporting for decriminalization and connections with people who use drugs.
- Recommend and implement practices and procedures to improve access to substance use care and health and wellness programs, services, and facilities.
- Develop partnerships with community health and wellness service providers and local healthcare providers to offer spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical wellness programs and services.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certificate in substance use specialization and relevant experience.
- First aid level 1 (with CPR), Hep B shot, and flu vaccine.
- Naloxone training.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- In-depth knowledge of the BC healthcare system and current landscape of First Nations health in BC.
- In-depth knowledge of Aboriginal/First Nations health and wellness system needs.
- Thorough understanding of person-centered care to provide holistic, integrated, coordinated, and high-quality care that respects diversity and culture.
- Knowledge and support of harm reduction approach to substance use recovery.
- Trauma-informed practice.
- Motivational interviewing.
