We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team at the BC SPCA Kamloops Spay & Neuter Clinic. As a key member of our team, you will provide exceptional animal care and support to our veterinarians and animal health technicians.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist with animal handling, restraint, and monitoring during anesthesia and surgery
- Prepare patients for surgery, including nail trims, shaving, and tattooing
- Provide general patient care, including cleaning and maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Assist with surgical instrument cleaning and preparation
- Support veterinarians during surgery as needed
- Restock supplies and maintain a well-organized workspace
- Assist with discharge of surgical patients and provide excellent customer service
- Perform reception duties, including booking appointments and answering phones
- Order supplies and maintain inventory
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Veterinary Office Assistant program or comparable veterinary assistant experience
- Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases
- Experience handling dogs and cats in a professional setting an asset
- Ability to maintain a high level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties
- Strong computer skills and excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and multitask, with excellent telephone and customer service skills
