Veterinary Technologist

About the Position:
This role provides critical support to our veterinarians in delivering high-quality animal care and treatment. As a Registered Veterinary Technologist, you will assist with anesthesia and surgery for privately owned and shelter animals, maintain hospital equipment, and provide exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians with patient care, including administering medications, performing treatments, and collecting specimens.
- Conduct laboratory work, including hematology, biochemistry, and microbiology tests.
- Perform diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using various equipment.
- Monitor patient vital signs, inputs, and outputs, and provide emergency care as needed.
- Assist with humane euthanasia and other duties as assigned.
Client Communication:
- Provide excellent customer service to clients, educating them on animal care and treatment.
- Update clients on patient status and perform discharges.
- Create discharge/home care instructions and perform callbacks as needed.
Housekeeping and Administrative Duties:
- Clean and maintain equipment, including anesthetic, laboratory, and x-ray machines.
- Ensure accurate recording of patient fees and supplies.
- Stock supplies as needed and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of a veterinary technologist program accredited by the CVMA and registration with the BCVTA.
- Experience in delivering high-quality customer service and excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic organization with a commitment to animal welfare and public education.
