About the Role

The Recreation Aide is a vital member of our team, responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating activity programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents. This role requires a collaborative and engaging individual who can develop and maintain professional relationships that support and strengthen our organizational culture and purpose.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of recreation and leisure services, including program research, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Promote and publicize established recreation programs, such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, and games.
  • Coordinate external groups to provide in-house programs and assist residents as needed.
  • Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff by adhering to accident prevention protocols, emergency procedures, and infection control measures.
  • Document and report any changes in residents to the supervisor and/or nurse.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
  • Assist in the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro and Point Click Care.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and support to volunteers while evaluating their performance.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Grade 12 Education
  • A two-year Recreation or equivalent Diploma; or at a minimum a Health Care Aide with a Recreation/Activity Certificate
  • Previous experience in a senior's focused environment is an asset
  • Dementia course is an asset
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 Certification
  • Serving It Right Certificate
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is an asset
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook
