Job Title: Safety Area Manager

First Student is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Area Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, drivers, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management, Operations, and Maintenance teams to develop and implement safety protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct comprehensive incident investigations and share best practices for problem-solving.
  • Provide support to the Risk Management team on claims management and litigation.
  • Work closely with the workers' compensation third-party administrator to proactively manage claims.
  • Assist locations in determining and implementing remedial actions for safety events and review disciplinary actions with HR and Operations.
  • Provide safety training for new employees and develop LSM competencies and skills.
  • Ensure operational efficiencies at a location level by utilizing Focus, Zonar, and the Safety Care database.
  • Perform location Safety Wellness Checks and conduct safety audits.
  • Manage the BeSafe process, including Safety Leadership course delivery and identifying and onboarding BeSafe Coaches.
Requirements:
  • 7 years of safety/transportation experience.
  • 5 years of experience in fleet transportation management.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Leadership, decision-making, and team-building skills.
  • Strong proficiency in computer literacy, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with other software, such as timekeeping and payroll systems.
  • Advanced skills in technology used to manage operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and perform root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with others in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and provide leadership.
  • Collision Investigation training.
  • State/Provincial Instructor Certification in at least one of the States/Provincial in the Region.
  • Certified Smith System Defensive Driving Instructor.
