Job Summary
First Student Shared Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Location Safety Manager to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of safety and compliance within our operations.
Main Responsibilities
- Administer the driver hiring and compliance process, including interviewing and driver selection, collecting applications, conducting background checks, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide direction and guidance to location trainers, and contribute to the development of classroom training content to ensure compliance.
- Teach classes as required, and schedule and conduct re-certification and re-training sessions.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and work-related injuries, and determine fault or preventability based on the facts identified at the scene.
- Provide post-accident counseling to drivers, and retrain drivers as necessary.
- Prepare and submit accident-related compliance forms, maintain files, and enter data into our system.
- Plan, schedule, and conduct monthly safety meetings, and assist in Safety Action Team meetings.
- Set up regular accident review committees to determine preventability of accidents, and respond to appeals from drivers.
- Provide assistance and training to drivers and attendants on passenger management and other safety-related issues.
- Perform driver road checks of driver performance, and provide various reports and analyses, including safety trends.
- Develop cost-saving recommendations, and perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 5 years of operations experience, including roles within operations starting with the driver role.
- Experience in a safety role is preferred.
- Committed to a safety lifestyle, with knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues.
- Proficient computer literacy, with experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Literacy in technology used to manage operations, including FGA-approved Smart technology, Apps, encrypted drives, shared drives, and other Smart technology.
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with employees of all levels, including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials, and the general public.
- Fluent in English.
