Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

Your Role:

As a vital member of the faculty at Nova Scotia Community College's School of Technology & Environment, you will:

  • Deliver both theoretical and hands-on instruction across a range of IT programs. Your expertise in systems and networking will be essential, while also being prepared to teach introductory courses in various other domains.
  • Collaboratively create and implement educational experiences tailored for a diverse student body. This includes preparation, teaching, assessment, and evaluation utilizing a wide array of flexible teaching methodologies and technologies, such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace) and classroom tools.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards within your classroom, laboratories, and workshops.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends relevant to your program, continuously enhancing your understanding of modern teaching and learning practices. This role may require various teaching formats (e.g., in-person, online, hybrid), off-site instruction, and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Engage in additional responsibilities such as academic and career counseling, committee participation, program promotion, curriculum development through collaborative faculty efforts, overseeing work placements, liaising with industry partners, representing the college as needed, and upholding institutional policies.

Qualifications

Educational Background and Experience:

  • A college diploma or university degree in a field related to Information Technology is required.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in information technology, particularly in complex networking environments. Experience in supervisory roles, including evaluation and guidance, is advantageous.
  • Proficient technical knowledge and skills in: Linux/Unix, Microsoft environments, Active Directory (complex designs), Virtualized Environments (Azure, AWS), Security (complex environments), and Scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with business and industry stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Learning Management Systems (Brightspace or similar).
  • Comfortable operating in a digital environment, taking initiative to learn about emerging technologies, and committed to leveraging technology to enhance student experiences, including multimedia and various platforms for engaging online and blended learning.
  • Experience in delivering educational programs or training to adult learners is preferred.
  • Experience providing performance feedback is a plus.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, and specific safety practices is essential.
  • Proficient in using multimedia technologies and various platforms to engage students in online and blended learning environments. Candidates without prior online/blended teaching experience should be willing to undergo training for this delivery model.
