About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health organization is seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team. As an Occupational Therapist, you will work under the supervision of the Manager of Rehabilitation Services to facilitate, restore, and/or maintain patients' optimal level of function in areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.

You will provide consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up while working within the hospital, the client's home, and/or their community. You will establish individualized treatment plans and goals, manage a busy caseload, and use clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required. You will provide education and support to clients, families, and caregivers, and function as a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and an interprofessional hospital and/or community healthcare team.

You will contribute to the clinical education of OT students and related health disciplines and to supervision of OT Assistants. You will be responsible for adhering to Nova Scotia Health policies and procedures and to the professional standards of your licensing body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree or entry-level master's program in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university. Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia, is mandatory.

You must have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other healthcare providers, and staff. You must be committed to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health.

You must be able to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising. You must be able to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility.

You must be able to work alone or with team members in all service settings. Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.

Hours

This is a long-assignment full-time position with 100% FTE and 75 hours bi-weekly. The approximate duration is 12 months, with shiftwork, call, rotation, etc.

Compensation and Incentives

The hourly rate is $44.40. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
