Patient Services Coordinator, Maternal Newborn Unit

About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Services Clerk to join our team in the Acute Perinatal Program, Maternal Newborn Unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our patients and healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer telephone calls, take messages, and relay information to appropriate personnel.
- Enter patient information into the Cerner system for discharge, transfer to other facilities, and transfer between units.
- Make arrangements for patients requiring procedures, such as laboratory tests, CT scans, and ultrasounds.
- Transcribe and process physicians' orders to appropriate forms, medication records, and kardex.
- Check charts for unprocessed orders and notify the charge nurse immediately.
- Prepare charts for new admissions, including making identification labels and imprinting chart sheets.
- Maintain patient records, including filing loose reports and retrieving previous charts.
- Prepare charts for patient transfers to other facilities.
- Complete demographic information on forms for Vital Statistics.
- Notify departments of patient requirements, including discharge or transfer.
- Perform related clerical duties, such as compiling statistics and maintaining office supplies.
Requirements
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from an approved Nursing Unit Clerk program, plus one year's recent related experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
- Ability to keyboard 40 wpm.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
