Director, Research Planning

Calian Group Ltd. is seeking a seasoned Director, Research Planning to lead our Software team, Product team, Special Projects team, Quality Assurance team, and Project Management team in Regina, SK.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, a proven track record of successful project management, and a passion for driving advancements in the field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to and manage the overall research and development strategy.
  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate daily R&D operations to ensure efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into practical solutions.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration, sharing good practices including technical and business information with the team.
  • Develop and manage budgets, timelines, and resources for R&D projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in agricultural science and technology.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of proven experience in leading research and development projects.
  • Strong leadership skills, technical and business knowledge.
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deal with pressure, particularly during harvesting season.
  • Valid passport required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of software development experience (desktop, mobile, and/or web applications).
  • Ability to translate product requirements into technical requirements.
  • Experience with annual performance planning, goal setting, and year-end reviews.
  • Experience with professional development strategy and implementation.
  • Experience with user experience best practices.

Experience with tools like the software development cycle, Google Cloud Platform, SQL, Jira, project management, HubSpot, C/C++, etc. is an asset. Experience in data science and/or business intelligence, especially experience with data warehousing, is also an asset.

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field is required.
