Simon Fraser University stands as a prominent research institution, dedicated to fostering an inclusive and sustainable future. Our mission is to create and connect knowledge, learning, and community for a deeper understanding and significant impact. We are committed to promoting excellence, innovation, belonging, and community in all our endeavors.
Our team within the Faculty of Education plays a crucial role in delivering essential administrative support for the Preservice Professional Studies (PPS). We are responsible for the teacher education segment of the faculty, designed for aspiring K-12 educators in British Columbia. Our innovative programs provide unique pathways to the teaching profession at various stages of a student teacher's career. By effectively managing administrative tasks, we contribute to SFU's objective of upholding high educational standards and ensuring seamless program operations. Our team culture prioritizes collaboration, precision, and a commitment to supporting the educational community, ensuring a smooth experience for faculty, associates, staff, and student teachers.
Role Overview
As an Office Administrator in the Faculty of Education, you will be instrumental in delivering comprehensive administrative support to the Director, Associate Director, and Manager of Preservice Professional Studies. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate the smooth functioning of professional programs by organizing meetings, events, and orientations, as well as managing financial processes including invoice payments and expense claims. This role is vital to achieving departmental objectives by promoting effective communication and organizational efficiency, which are essential for the successful execution of educational programs. Upcoming initiatives include coordinating orientations and retreats for faculty associates and coordinators, organizing year-end celebrations, and assisting with the rollout of new administrative systems. This position provides an opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team, enhancing your organizational and communication skills in a dynamic educational setting. If you are detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to supporting academic excellence, this role aligns well with your skills.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with outstanding organizational and communication abilities. They should have strong proficiency in word processing, database management, and desktop publishing applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, InDesign, Photoshop). The capacity to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential information with discretion is crucial. Additionally, candidates should exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills, a high degree of accuracy in typing (60 wpm), and familiarity with university policies and FOIPOP regulations. Proficiency in creating and maintaining both electronic and hard-copy records is essential.
