Unit Overview

The Pediatric Ambulatory Clinics at Hamilton Health Sciences offer a variety of specialized services, delivering acute tertiary and subspecialty medical and surgical care to children from birth to 18 years. These clinics operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, ensuring that specialized care is provided in a family-centered manner.

Position Overview

As an integral member of the healthcare team, the Business Clerk plays a vital role in providing administrative support to patients, families, and healthcare providers. The Business Clerk is well-versed in registering and scheduling patient appointments. Key responsibilities include managing multiple incoming calls and directing them appropriately, welcoming patients and families, and addressing various inquiries from care teams and/or patients and families. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as per the job description for Business Clerks.

Work Schedule

Monday to Sunday; days/evenings

Qualifications

  1. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  2. Graduation from a community college secretarial or office administration program
  3. A minimum of one year of experience in a Business Clerk role involving scheduling and booking patient appointments
  4. Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 or equivalent knowledge, which may be subject to testing
  5. Proficiency in using EPIC, MS Office Suite, MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Exchange, MS PowerPoint, and Medical Record practices
  6. Demonstrated keyboarding and typing skills (minimum of 40 wpm), subject to testing
  7. Exceptional telephone communication skills in a fast-paced clinic setting
  8. Mathematical skills relevant to clinic data and scheduling
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with interpersonal, public relations, and problem-solving abilities
  10. Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work effectively
  11. Capability to collaborate effectively with various hospital departments
  12. Understanding of the confidential nature of the position
  13. Ability to sit for extended periods, requiring focused attention on a computer, along with repetitive keyboarding, bending, and reaching

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
