Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Island Health. The ideal candidate will possess a Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline and have a strong understanding of mental health and addiction issues.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of recent experience in a related field, with a focus on substance misuse assessments, treatment methodologies, and intervention strategies. They will also have knowledge of applicable legislation, such as Mental Health and Child Protection legislation, and be familiar with available programs and services in the community.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. They will also have strong organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills, with the ability to promote positive change and independence in clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct substance misuse assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Provide counseling and therapy services to clients
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care
  • Develop and implement education programs for clients and community members
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in the field of mental health and addiction
