Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Island Health. The ideal candidate will possess a Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline and have experience working with mental health and addiction issues.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mental health and addiction issues, as well as experience with substance misuse assessments, treatment methodologies, and intervention strategies. They will also have knowledge of applicable legislation, such as Mental Health and Child Protection legislation, and be familiar with available programs and services in the community.

The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. They will also be able to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team and promote positive change and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment and treatment services to individuals with mental health and addiction issues
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with clients and other healthcare professionals
  • Provide education and support to clients and their families
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline
  • Experience working with mental health and addiction issues
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and available programs and services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
