AltaGas - Senior Director of Environmental Strategy

AltaGas Ltd. is in search of a seasoned and proactive Senior Director of Environmental Strategy to spearhead our sustainability efforts and reinforce our dedication to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) excellence.

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, the Senior Director of Environmental Strategy will be instrumental in developing and implementing AltaGas' Sustainability Framework.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and enhance AltaGas' Sustainability Framework, working collaboratively across various departments to establish and evaluate progress, ensuring alignment of sustainability goals with the company's strategic vision and operational objectives.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, promoting transparent communication and teamwork on sustainability projects.
  • Supervise the creation and dissemination of Sustainability reports, guaranteeing clarity and precision in performance reporting.
  • Lead initiatives to integrate Sustainability reporting with financial disclosures in partnership with the Finance and Environmental, Health, and Safety teams.
  • Ensure adherence to all pertinent sustainability regulations, laws, and industry standards, upholding a robust corporate governance structure.
  • Evaluate and suggest voluntary reporting standards for the organization.
  • Identify, manage, and communicate sustainability-related risks, devising strategies to address potential challenges while serving as a compelling communicator and representative for the organization.
  • Develop and guide a high-performing team, offering mentorship and support to team members, demonstrating leadership capabilities and expertise in team development.


Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success in crafting and executing sustainability strategies within the energy sector.
  • Over five years of specialized experience in sustainability within the energy domain, particularly in Exploration and Production, midstream, or utility sectors.
  • Strong familiarity with global sustainability frameworks (such as ISSB, TCFD, TNFD, SASB) and relevant securities laws for effective sustainability disclosures.
  • Experience in incorporating climate scenario analysis into strategic planning.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication abilities, capable of engaging diverse stakeholders and preparing presentations for the Board.
  • Proven experience in leading the development and publication of annual sustainability reports for publicly traded entities.
  • In-depth understanding of environmental and social sustainability best practices, trends, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to drive organizational change and cultivate a culture of sustainability.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; a master's degree is preferred.
