Position Overview:
The Behaviour Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing expert clinical behavioural assessments and tailored behaviour support services within the healthcare environment. This position is integral to the inpatient Behavioural Neurology unit and other related programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough clinical behavioural evaluations and offers behaviour support services.
- Delivers training sessions for staff and students focused on effective behaviour support techniques.
- Utilizes a bio-psychosocial framework to identify factors influencing responsive behaviours through comprehensive assessments.
- Collaborates with clients, their care partners, and the broader care team to create and implement personalized behaviour management strategies and care plans.
- Engages in data collection and reporting to monitor various accountability metrics.
- Participates actively in team meetings, patient rounds, and educational initiatives.
- Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Registered Behaviour Analyst with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario.
- A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience working with individuals facing neurodegenerative conditions, including dementia, and those exhibiting acute behavioural changes.
- Familiarity with behavioural, cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental assessments related to responsive behaviours.
- Training in applied behaviour analysis and behavioural support management approaches, such as Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA), P.I.E.C.E.S., U-First, and Montessori Approach is preferred.
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and assessing behavioural support programs, quality improvement initiatives, and educational opportunities for team members.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct clinical research effectively.
- Strong clinical reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and interprofessional collaboration skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and health information systems.
