Job Title: Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Savory Elementary School.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide support to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, behaviour disorders, and learning disabilities. The Education Assistant will work collaboratively with teachers, inclusive education specialists, and supervisors to implement adapted and modified curriculum, and provide individualized support to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in various classrooms, including those with autism and behaviour disorders
  • Implement adapted and modified curriculum, and provide individualized support to students
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as feeding, dressing, and toileting
  • Support students with physical disabilities, including lifting and transferring
  • Participate in supervision of students on the playground and on field trips
  • Assist with transitions between activities, and provide support to students with behaviour challenges
  • Report safety concerns and unusual behaviour to the principal or designate
  • Attend to minor cuts and bruises, and refer students to the first aid attendant as required

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field
  • Minimum three months of experience working with children
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates patience and acceptance when dealing with students
  • Shows kindness and cares about the well-being of students
  • Actively shows courtesy and respect to all, and contributes to a positive working environment
  • Clearly articulates thoughts and ideas, and shares timely and relevant information openly, honestly, and respectfully
  • Possesses strong organizational skills, and proactively plans, prioritizes, and organizes work

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and will be required to walk or run in various weather conditions. The candidate will also be required to physically assist students, including lifting and transferring.
