Position Overview

The User Terminal Program Manager is a pivotal role within Telesat, a premier global satellite operator renowned for delivering secure satellite communication solutions. This position is integral to the ongoing development of user terminal technologies, collaborating with external technology partners to ensure optimal delivery and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and execution of multiple vendor programs, managing scope, schedule, milestones, risks, and budgetary constraints.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of user terminal programs, including flat panel antennas.
  • Ensure comprehensive tracking of both internal and external development efforts, identifying risks and challenges for the overarching Lightspeed initiative.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and commercial teams to align user terminal requirements with vendor deliverables.
  • Assist in the preparation of partnership and supply agreements in conjunction with engineering and legal teams.
  • Coordinate program initiatives for the Telesat Lightspeed constellation in partnership with commercial and services teams.
  • Develop essential documentation for effective management and execution of user terminal programs, including performance dashboards.
  • Evaluate vendor development progress and prepare insights for leadership presentations regarding program highlights and future plans.
  • Engage with suppliers to establish cost-effective design initiatives aimed at achieving production cost targets for user terminals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, with a focus on communication systems or satellite terminals.
  • A minimum of 6 years of program management experience in a STEM discipline, including at least 2 years in the satellite communications sector.
  • A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects effectively.
  • Proficient in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera Cloud, or Jira.
  • General understanding of modem, RF, electronics, and antenna technologies.
  • Experience in navigating business considerations and practical limitations in system design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with external vendor management, including design and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong prioritization skills for opportunities, needs, and resources.
  • PMP Certification is a plus.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Work Environment

  • This role is primarily office-based with a hybrid work model available.
  • Comfortable working conditions typical of an office environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Candidates must be eligible for relevant security clearance.
